80 100 Series Land Cruiser Winch Bumper Guide

A winch bumper with a good set of spotlights is one of the most useful upgrades you can make to an 80 or 100 Series Land Cruiser. The bumper protects the front of the truck, the winch gets you or a buddy unstuck, and the lights let you keep going after dark. Dobinsons makes a Classic Black steel bull bar for both platforms:

Both are airbag and winch compatible and are built from structural steel with a 3mm thick main body, 4mm and 5mm brackets, 1.6mm bash plates, and 51mm top tubes. They include driving light mounts, LED turn signals, dual reinforced Hi-Lift jacking points, and a separate winch cradle that mounts straight to the frame, so the weight of the winch and the pulling load are carried by the chassis. They're made for 10,000 to 12,000 lb low-mount winches. On the LX 470, the grille usually needs a little trimming to clear the bar.

Dobinsons offers 12 volt electric winches in 9,500 lb and 12,000 lb ratings, with your choice of steel cable or synthetic rope. For a fully loaded 80 or 100 Series, we usually recommend the 12,000 lb winch for extra pulling power. Synthetic rope is lighter and safer to handle, and steel cable is tougher against abrasion.

Good lighting makes night driving on back roads and trails a lot safer. The Dobinsons bull bars have built-in driving light mounts, so a pair of LED spotlights mounts cleanly up front. We wire the lights with a proper harness and switch, so they work like they came from the factory.
