Land Cruiser Sunroof Leak Drain Motor Repair

Land Cruiser Sunroof Leak, Drain, and Motor Repair
Sunroof problems are one of the most common issues we see on 100 Series Land Cruisers and Lexus LX 470s. A sunroof that leaks, stalls halfway, or won't open at all is usually caused by water getting where it shouldn't. At 4X4 Rides, we repair Land Cruiser sunroofs the right way, from clearing drain tubes to rebuilding the whole sunroof assembly.

Why Land Cruiser Sunroofs Leak
Every sunroof has drain tubes at the corners that carry water down and out of the truck. Over time, those tubes clog with dirt, leaves, and debris. When they back up, water overflows into the headliner and down the pillars, leaving stains, wet carpets, and musty smells. Left alone, that water also works its way into the sunroof mechanism itself.

Clearing Clogged Sunroof Drain Tubes
We clear and flush all of the sunroof drain tubes so water drains out of the truck the way Toyota designed it to. For many leaks, this is the fix, and it's the first thing we check.

Seized Sunroof Cables and Cable Housings
When water sits in the sunroof frame, the cables and cable housings that move the glass rust and seize up. The motor strains against them, and the sunroof slows down, gets stuck, or stops working altogether. Seized cables and housings usually have to be replaced. In some cases we can clean and repair them instead, which costs much less, and we'll let you know which option your truck needs.

Sunroof Motor Problems
A sunroof motor often gets blamed when the real problem is seized cables. We check the cables and track first, then test the motor, so you only pay for the parts you actually need.
Our Land Cruiser Sunroof Repair Process
  • Drop the headliner to get full access to the sunroof
  • Clear and flush the drain tubes
  • Inspect the cables, cable housings, track, and motor
