Land Cruiser Tire Size Fitment 80/100
Land Cruiser Tire Size Fitment: 80 Series and 100 Series
Picking the right tire size is one of the first upgrades most 80 Series and 100 Series Land Cruiser owners make. The right size improves traction, ground clearance, and the look of the truck, while the wrong size can lead to rubbing, a sluggish feel, and a wrong speedometer. At 4X4 Rides we sell and build Land Cruisers and Toyota 4x4s every day, and these are the tire sizes we see work best.
80 Series Land Cruiser Tire Sizes
The 80 Series has solid axles front and rear, so it takes bigger tires better than most SUVs.
- Stock suspension: a 285/75R16 (about 33 inches) is the most popular upgrade and usually fits with little or no trimming.
- 2 to 3 inch lift: 285/75R16 fits comfortably, and many owners step up to 305/70R16 or 315/75R16 (about 35 inches) with some trimming.
- 35 inch tires: plan on a lift, trimming, and in most cases re-gearing so the truck keeps its power and drivability.
100 Series Land Cruiser and LX 470 Tire Sizes
The 100 Series and Lexus LX 470 use independent front suspension, so fitment is tighter than on the 80 Series.
- Stock suspension: a slightly larger all-terrain on the factory wheel size is the easy, no-trim upgrade.
- 2 to 2.5 inch lift: 285/75R16 or 285/70R17 (about 33 inches) is the sweet spot for most builds, sometimes with minor trimming.
- Bigger than 33 inches: possible, but it usually takes more lift, trimming, and gearing changes, and it can be harder on the front end.
What Else Affects Tire Fitment?
Wheel offset and backspacing, lift height, bumpers and armor, and how you drive all change what will fit. Bigger, heavier tires also affect braking, fuel economy, and gearing. We always check the whole setup before recommending a size, so the truck drives right on the road and on the trail.
